KABUL): A woman was among five would-be suicide bombers detained by police in eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday, an official said on Friday, claiming the detainees were planning attacks in Kabul.

“The suicide bombers wanted to attack two government departments in Kabul where the Mujahiddin Victory Day is being celebrated next week,” the Ministry of Interior spokesman told a press conference in the central capital.

Ghulam Siddique Siddiqui said police had two months prior information about the entry of the bombers who had been trained and equipped in Lwargi area of Pakistan border.

Four suicide vests and explosives placed in a suitcase possessed by the woman were seized from the detainees traveling in a Suzuki car to Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar, the official said.

The bombers, who hail from Nangarhar, are being interrogated by police and they have confessed to their loyalty with the Haqqani network group based in Waziristan, according to Siddiqui.

Meanwhile, two Taliban fighters were detained with an explosives-packed motorcycle in northern Kunduz province.

The pair wanted to blow up a money exchange shop in Kunduz City, but police were able arrest them with people’s cooperation, an official said.
