KABUL ministers to investigate problems facing residents of southern Kandahar and Helmand provinces.
A statement issued from the Presidential Palace in Kabul said President Karzai was briefed by some religious and tribal leaders from Kandahar and Helmand about problems being faced by residents in the two provinces.
The visiting individuals urged the government to establish two hydropower dams on the Arghandab River and a township in Kandahar City.
They also demanded the construction of a retaining wall around forests in Lashkargah, Helmand’s capital, a bridge on the Helmand River and another bridge in Lashkargah, the statement said.
Karzai ordered public works and education ministers to look into these demands and report back to him until next week after consulting public representatives in the two provinces.
The president also briefed the delegates on the final phase of the security transition from international soldiers to Afghan forces and the opening of a Taliban office in Doha.
