Maj. Gen. Ravinder Singh called on ISAF Commander Gen. Joseph F. Dunford and appreciated NATO’s support to Singapore troops during their six years stay in Afghanistan.
Dunford hailed Singapore as a valued partner in contributing to international security and stability efforts in Afghanistan. “The Singapore contingent is serving honourably and contributes distinguished service to this mission.
A statement from ISAF quoted Dunford as saying. “Through their dedication to their tasks and missions here, and to their fellow countrymen, the Singaporeans have helped create a stronger and more stable Afghanistan…”
During his visit to Multinational Base Tirinkot, Singh met Regional Command- South Commander Maj. Gen. Robert Abe Abrams.
NATO Senior Civilian Representative Ambassador Maurits Jochems said: “As the representative of the alliance in Afghanistan, I express our deep appreciation for the contribution Singapore has made to the NATO-led mission here.
“The ISAF mission, the largest military coalition in history, is truly global in nature and Singapore has demonstrated with this contribution its commitment to a peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan as an indispensable element of increased stability in the region.”
Singapore has deployed 492 soldiers during its six-year mission, supporting coalition partners in humanitarian assistance and reconstruction efforts, force protection, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, and training of Afghanistan forces.
