CHARIKAR): A power transformer, providing electricity to around 1,100 families, was on inaugurated Saturday in Charikar, the capital of central Parwan province, an official said.
Worth 18 million afghanis, the transformer in the 12th municipality district was provided by the Breshna Shirkat, the power utility, said Ghulam Haidar Siddiqui, the company’s provincial chief.
Residents expressed happiness over the project. Mohammad Zarif, a dweller, said they had to use lantern and gas lamps previously. “We are happy our electricity problem has been resolved.”
Siddiqui said 9,000 families in Charikar had access to four megawatts of power imported from neighboring Uzbekistan. He said efforts were underway to provide electricity to more than 10,000 families.
