KABUL sector.

The need for continued international help was stressed in an MSF survey, covering 800 patients in Helmand, Khost, Kabul and Kunduz provinces.

Addressing a press conference, MSF representative De Gryse Bvnoit said the survey had been conducted to get information on the health issue in Afghanistan.

He acknowledged the international community’s assistance was decreasing and underlined continued support for the country’s health sector.

He quoted Afghan officials as saying that 85 percent of the population had access to basic health service. But the respondents said they were suffering from lack of medicines, doctors and experienced staff.

According to MSF, most people are unable to take their patients to clinics at night; a number of people lose their lives because of the absence of health units in remote areas.
