KABUL on Tuesday announced supporting presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai in the April 5 ballot.

Over one thousand people attended a meeting arranged by the party in support of Ahmadzai, who was also among the attendees.

Party leaders said Ahmadzai was a suitable candidate for the presidential position as he had the ability to steer the country out of the current challenges.

Speaking to the participants, Ahmadzai said: “Ulema are inheritors of the legacy of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Peace will be restored with their support.

“The peace slogan should emanate from the minarets of mosques and then the enemy of the country will understand that Afghans are united,” he added.

He sought a greater role for ulema in creating awareness among the people regarding elections.

Separately, elders of the Abdul Rahimzai tribe also announced support to Ahmadzai.
