KABUL (UNAMA) has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the tragic demise of Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim, the First Vice-President of Afghanistan.
Fahim died Sunday of cardiac arrest in the capital Kabul. Through a decree, President Hamid Karzai declares a three-day national mourning across Afghanistan, starting tomorrow, during which the national flag of Afghanistan will be half– hoisted.
In a statement Jan Kubis, Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA, said: “The UN family joins the Government and people of Afghanistan in mourning the loss of Marshal Fahim.”
The Mission extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late Vice-President, the statement quoted Kubis as saying.
