FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Triggering by heavy rains, flash floods in northeastern Badakhshan province wreaked havoc and destroyed 45 more houses and hundreds of acres of crops, an official said on Monday.
The floods, started a day before, swept away 45 houses and 780 acres of farmland in Shakhdan and Balocha villages of Kasham district of the province, governor’s spokesperson, Ahmad Nawid Frotan, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Azizullah, a resident of Shakhdan village, said his house along with all his belongings destroyed in the floods. “I have faced immense problems to evacuate my family and children to our neighbor village,” he added.
He said 45 families had been displaced from flood-hit areas to the neighbor villages and they were in miserable condition. He demanded the government should send immediate relief goods such as medicine and other stuff to facilitate the flood affected families.
Frotan said a survey was launched by the Natural Disaster Management Authorities (NDMA) to assess the situation and an emergency meeting leading by the governor would be held today.
The meeting would ask aid organizations to help address problems of the affected families, he said.
However, local officials said they had no reports of any human loss from the floods.
Two days ago, four people were killed and as many missing, with hundreds of residential buildings destroyed in a landslide caused by heavy rains in Rastaq district of northeaster Takhar province.
