AIBAK (Pajhwok): Around 5,000 acres of land have been cleared of locusts in northern Samangan province, an official said on Wednesday.
The grasshopper elimination campaign covering 40 hectares of land was launched on March 29. So far 1,500 litres of insecticide has been sprayed on 5,000 acres of affected land.
Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Director Eng. Mohammad Aslam Dana told Pajhwok Afghan News if the locusts were not eliminated, their number would increase with time and crops would come under attack.
Another local official, Gulbadin Ghayasi, said 90 workers divided into eight groups were implementing the campaign in the Taikhonak area of provincial capital and Hazrat-i-Sultan and Dara-i-Sauf Payeen districts.
