LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A well-attended seminar on education and history of Helmand province was held in Lashkargah on Friday. Speakers highlighted the importance of the province.
Ghulam Nabi Farahi, deputy minister of information and culture, intellectuals, poets, writers and tribal elders attended the seminar. They spoke about agriculture and other issues.
Governor Maj. Gen. Mohammad Naeem said the province had not fared well in economic and cultural areas. “Helmand is set to progress now. It’s back on track in terms of reconstruction,” he added.
Farahi told the seminar that Helmand had a rich historical and cultural background and needed to be projected.
Mohammad Hassan Wolesmal, a leading poet and writer, said Helmand river water, if utilised to irrigate farmlands, could spur economic activities and bring prosperity to the lives of the people.
