KABUL (Pajhwok): President Hamid Karzai on Monday phoned the 11 voters whose ink-stained index fingers were cut off by militants in western Herat province.
Karzai prayed for the swift recovery of the victims from Rabat-i-Sangi district, denouncing the incidents as an act of Afghanistan’s enemies.
A statement from his office said that Karzai lauded the contribution of the 11 people in promoting the democratic system in Afghanistan.
The government would extend all possible support to the victims, the president promised, saying the culprits would be brought to justice.
