KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Unidentified gunmen have shot dead a former district chief in southern Kandahar province, the governor’s office said on Friday.
Haji Baran Khaksar, the ex-administrative of Panjwai district, was gunned down by motorcyclists in the Mir Wais Mina area of Kandahar City on Thursday night.
Dawa Khan Minapal, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Khaksar came under gun attack while entering his residence in the 7th police district of the city.
No one has been detained so far in connection with the murder, which took place at 7.30pm. The ex-district chief recently attended Dr. Abdullah’s campaign meetings, one security official said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the killing of Khaksar, also an elder who contributed to efforts at resolving tribal disputes. Police have launched an investigation.
