MAIDAN SHAHAR/MAHMOOD RAQI (Pajhwok): Fifteen insurgents have been killed and 23 others wounded in a series of operations in central Maidan Wardak and Kapisa provinces, officials said on Tuesday.
Attaullah Khogyani, the Maidan Wardak governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that an overnight anti-rebel offensive was carried out in Zebdagh and Ambokhak localities of Chak district.
Eight Taliban‘s Waziristan tribal region, were killed and 11 more injured in the operation, he added. Three notorious commanders were among those dead.
In Kapisa, Brig. Gen. Khwaja Faqir Ahmad Saddiqui, the provincial police chief, said seven rebels were killed and 12 others wounded in a clash with security forces in Tagab district.
Clashes have been underway in Tatarkhel and Shkot areas of the district for the last few days, he said, adding an offensive had been launched to purge the areas of anti-state elements.
Farhad, a local, claimed some civilians had also suffered casualties in Tagab clashes. “I saw wounded civilians evacuated in vehicles to hospital for treatment,” he said. Local militants confirmed clashes in Tagab but gave no further details.
