KABUL (Pajhwok): A special audit of 6,000 suspect ballot boxes, identified by the election teams of Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and Dr. Abdullah, was delayed again on Friday.
Speaking on behalf of the Ahmadzai-led Change and Continuity team, Abdur Rahman Kharotai told Pajhwok Afghan News that the special scrutiny would begin on Saturday.
Both sides had provided list of 3,000 boxes each for the special audit to the Independent Election Commission (IEC), he said. But the panel has been unable to separate the boxes.
However, the audit of other ballot boxes is ongoing in a routine manner, according to Kharotai, who was confident the process would be set in motion tomorrow.
A member of Abdullah’s camp, Mohammad Zahir Aghbar, said the scrutiny of 6,000 suspect ballot boxes would begin tomorrow. So far, the vote audit process has been moving well, he added.
A member of Abdullah’s camp, Mohammad Zahir Aghbar, also confirmed the day-long delay. His team had given the IEC a list of the suspect ballot boxes, he said.
The special audit would cover 50 percent of the votes cast during the runoff elections, a move that may determine an acceptable outcome.
