TALOQAN (Pajhwok): Four Taliban, including a commander, have been detained on charges of planning an attack on the central jail of northeastern Takhar province, an official said Tuesday.
Police spokesman Maj. Khalil Aseer told a news conference the Taliban commander, Abdul Rahman, was netted along with three accomplices from Pakistan during an operation in Rustaq district on Monday.
He alleged the commander and his associates were planning to mount an attack on the Taloqan central jail, but there plan was scuttled by the authorities.
Militants have lately intensified their activities in the province. A week ago, the headquarters of Khwaja Ghar district came under militant attack a number of times.
