PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): A rehabilitation centre was inaugurated on Friday in central Logar province, where nearly 40,000 individuals are said to be drug addicts.
Acting Governor Niaz Mohammad inaugurated the 20-bed facility in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, with a number of government official attending the opening ceremony.
The 13-room hospital had been constructed over half an acre of land at a cost of 16 million afghanis, the governor said, adding the Ministry of Counter-Narcotics had provided funds.
The project is expected to boost efforts at rehabilitating drug addicts in Logar. Public Health Director Dr. Mohammad Zarif put the number of addicts in Logar at 40,000.
In the last six months, the rehab is the first major project to be inaugurated in the province, a gateway to Kabul. A poppy-free province, Logar receives id=”mce_marker” million from the ministry annually.
