MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Three Taliban militants, including a commander, and two armed robbers have been killed and six others wounded during separate incidents in northwestern Faryab province, an official said on Sunday.
Provincial police chief Col. Naeem Andarabi told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban commander, Jandullah, was among three others killed during a clash with police in Tapa Qishlaq area of Khwaja Sabzposh district last night.
Another six rebels suffered injuries during the clash, he said, adding security forces escaped unhurt.
A resident of the area, who wished not to be named, said the body of the slain commander was shifted to the district center for its handover to his relatives.
There has been no word from the Taliban about the killing of their commander.
Meanwhile, police shot dead two armed robbers in the Pashtunkot district.
The district chief, Abdul Qadir Qaderi, said the pair was killed after they stopped passenger cars on the Maimana-Pashtunkot Highway to loot them.
One of the passengers, Atiqullah, said: “There were 11 cars stopped by the robbers, but police rescued us and killed the two but a third robber managed to escape.”
