GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Of the 365 schools in southeastern Paktia province, 208 are without proper buildings, the education director said on Friday.
Islamuddin Mangal complained some NGOs and the Ministry of Education had pledged last year to help construct buildings for the schools but the promise was yet to be kept.
He said there were some schools where children were waiting to get admission after buildings were constructed for them.
Mangal urged the Ministry of Education and NGOs to set aside budgets for the construction of facilities in the strategically located province.
The surging strength of students demanded more facilities, including school buildings, and the government should work out a strategy to provide them with the right environment, he added.
Faizullah, a resident of Ahmadkhel district, said construction work on a school building had been launched two years ago but it could not be completed so far. He asked the Ministry of Education to help resolve the problem.
Mangal said if NGOs and the ministry worked hard and extended them help, then 30 buildings for schools could be completed next year.
