FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): At least five people, including two women, have been killed and three more hurt in two separate avalanches in northeastern Badakhshan province, officials said on Tuesday.
The avalanches occurred in Shoki and Mahami districts of the vulnerable province, bordering Pakistan’s northwestern valley of Chitral.
Fakhruddin Beazar, Shoki district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News three people, including a woman returning from a health clinic, lost their lives and two more were wounded.
Two other people were killed and a third wounded in a similar incident in Mahami town, district chief Mohammad Ismail said. Their bodies were discovered and returned to families with the help of residents.
Several districts of the mountainous province remain cut off from the capital Faizabad due to heavy snowfall in winters.
