KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Saturday said it had referred cases against all 28 suspects in Farkhanda’s murder to the Attorney General Office (AGO).
The cases would be investigated by the AGO before next moves are made, according to the ministry, which renewed its commitment to investigating the murder case seriously.
Farkhanda, 27, was murdered by a mob on March 19 after she criticised a cleric in Kabul for selling amulets. But people, who took part in or witnessed the incident, accused her of burning the Quran.
A fact-finding commission, led Maulvi Mohiuddin Baloch, said their investigation showed the woman had been innocent and that she had not burnt the Quran.
He said 19 police officers, including the chief of 2nd police district, had been sacked for negligence. They are currently under investigation.
Farkhanda’s lynching has sparked widespread protests inside the country and abroad. The demonstrators have sought deterrent punishment for the perpetrators.
