KABUL (Pajhwok): Semin Hassanzada, deputy broadcasting director at the Ministry of Information and Culture, has been dismissed from her position on allegation of demonstrating negligence in Farkhanda’s murder case, an official said Thursday.
An angry mob beat 27-year-old Farkhanda to death on March 18 before setting her body on fire. She was accused of burning a copy of the holy Quran and Religious Affairs.
At least 48 people, including police officials, were arrested following their involvement and failure to prevent the brutal killing of Farkhanda. The case was being investigated by the Attorney General Office (AGO). Farkhanda’s killing spread anger among civil society and human rights activists on national and international level.
Earlier, Vice President Sarwar Danish during his address to the lower house said that Farkhanda’s killing was an embarrassing event for the government and people of Afghanistan.
He said every official demonstrated negligence in the pursuit of Farkhanda’s case would be sacked and punished under the law of the land.
