KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani, who had traveled to Iran for signing the trilateral Chabahar transit agreement, returned to Kabul on Tuesday, his office said.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said that Ghani held fruitful talks with Iranian and Indian leaders on ways of boosting relations and cooperation in different areas.
The president signed the trilateral agreement with Iran and India on the development of the southeastern Chabahar port — a strategic port in the Gulf of Oman on Iran’s southern coast.
Chabahar is an open sea port in Iran’s Sistan Balochistan province, having capacity for shipping goods and services, especially for a land-locked country like Afghanistan.
Before travelingto Iran, the president visited Doha, the capital of Qatar, for two days in response to an official invitation from Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Ghani delivered a speech at 16th Doha Forum and met with Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Qatar Prime Minister Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani during the trip.
