MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Technical survey for the Watan Gato power dam in the eastern province of Laghman has been completed, an official on Tuesday.
After people’s repeated demand and efforts of the provincial administration, the dam’s technical survey was completed, Laghman Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi told Pajhwok Afghan News.
After assuming office as the governor, Naeemi said had repeatedly visited all the ministries and donor agencies regarding reconstruction of Laghman province.
The dam would be constructed in Watan Gato area of Alishang district at a cost of around $60 million.
The dam would have the capacity to produce 4.8 megawatts of electricity, the governor said, adding the project would help resolve to some extent power and irrigation water problems of the people.
He said the project completion would usher in a new era of economic development in the eastern zone and thousands of acres of land would be brought under irrigation.
The governor also said thousands of youth would also be provided with work opportunities on the dam project.
