KABUL (Pajhwok): Former president Sibghatullah Mujadidi is deeply concerned about the growing insecurity and instability in the country and has asked all political parties and leaders to join hands to deal with the situation.
Addressing a huddle at his residence in Kabul, where political leaders and renowned jihadi leaders were present, Mujadidi said Afghanistan was currently passing through a difficult situation and joint work was needed to get the country out of its multiple crises.
Former president Hamid Karzai, Karim Khaili, Mohammad Mohaqiq, Syed Mansour Naderi, Hamid Gilani, Wahidullah Sabawon, Ahmad Wali Massoud, Abdul Haim Munib, Anwarul HaqAhadi and Mohammad Yunas Qanouni attended the gathering.
Mujadidi said the US had failed to honor the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA), which said needed a review.
“Considering the growing problems and crises in the country, it is assumed the incumbent leadership is incompetent, they don’t listen to advices, corruption is all time high and the country is in deep crisis and there is the need for joint efforts and unity to overcome the country’s crises,” he said.
It was Mujadidi who pushed former president Hamid Karzai to sign the BSA five years back, but he surprisingly demanded the agreement to be reconsidered.
Earlier in the day, a majority of the Wolesi Jirga or lower house members supported reconsideration of the BSA with the United States.
The BSA between Afghanistan and the US was signed in September 2014 soon after President Ashraf Ghani came into power.
The president had said the agreement would bring stability and welfare to the country and would secure Afghanistan and the world at large from threats posed by terrorist networks.
Under the agreement, the US will support Afghanistan if the country faces any serious external threat to its territory.
