SHARANA/MEHTARALAM (Pajhwok): The newly-established emergency ward at the civil hospital in southeastern Paktia has been put into service.

Separately, construction work on a boundary wall around the teacher training college in eastern Laghman province has been launched, officials said on Saturday.

Construction work on the emergency ward at Paktia civil hospital took four months to complete and was inaugurated by Governor Aminulllah Sharaq on Saturday.

Paktia civil hospital director Dr. Chinar Gul Siddique told Pajhwok Afghan News the project cost $70,000, including $40,000 spent on medical equipment.

He said the project had been funded by the International Medical Corps (IMC). The emergency department has an operation theatre and international standard equipment, he added.

Siddique said the 75-bed hospital could not cope with all patients coming from all over the province.

Elsewhere, construction work on a boundary wall around the teacher training college in eastern Laghman was launched.

Mohammad Asif Hussain, the centre director, said the 680-metre long and 2.5-metre high wall would cost 4.5 million afghanis.
