Airstrike kills 3 Taliban in Nangarhar’s Ghanikhel

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A commander was among at least three Talibaninfo-icon militants killed in an airstrike in Ghanikhel district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Tuesday.

The airstrike was carried out by the Afghan Air Force special unite “02” in 27 Weala locality of the district late on Monday night, Attuallah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said civilians and security forces suffered no causalities during the operation and the ground forces confiscated some weapons belonging to the dead militants. He said three suspected gunmen were also detained during the operation.

The Taliban in a statement claimed the fighters killed several American and Afghan soldiers in Ghanikhel operation and confirmed the killing only one fighter.

Separately, police impounded a truck illegally transferring food and non-food items to Jalalabad, the provincial capital. The truck carried 7000 packages of food and nonfoods items, police spokesman Lt. Col. Hazrat Hussian Mashraqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the seized items included 2000 packages of milk, 1000 packages of juice, 3000 packages of matches and 1000 of different others items.
