To pick future cricket stars, 74-day national hunt begins

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Four-day matches began among zonal teams at the Ghazi Amanullah Khan Cricket Stadium in this capital city of eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday what officials said the first of its kindfirst class national cricket tournament .

Six zonal teams, including the Kabulinfo-icon zone, are taking part in the tournament as part of a talent hunt for the under-19 and the national sides. The four-day matches will be played in Nangarhar, Kunar and Khost provinces.

Dawlat Ahmadzai, domestic cricket in-charge at the Afghanistaninfo-icon Cricket Board, told Pajhwok Afghan News the competition was a fruitful chance for young players to exhibit their skills.

Some players could find their way the U-19 and the national teams if they performed well in the tournament, which he called as different from such events held in the past. He said the Kabul zone team was also part of the expedition.

Each team would play two four-day matches against the other during the tournament which would take 74 days to be wrapped up, According to Ahmadzai, who continued all members of provincial teams, the U-19, the Afghanistan-A and the national side would play in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Akram Alikeh, skipper of the Spin Ghar team, called the tournament as significant for all players because they could become future cricket starts.
