Rashid shines as Afghanistan whitewash Ireland

Feb 25, 2019 - 08:30

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A magical spell by spin sultan Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi’s breezy knock powered Afghanistaninfo-icon to a convincing triumph over Ireland in the third T20 in Dehradun on Sunday.

Nabi smashed a quick-fire 81 off 36 balls and Rashid Khan captured five wickets for 27, including a hat-trick, as Afghanistan whitewashed the opposition for their 10th consecutive T20I win.

Batting first, the national squad set Ireland a target of 211, with Nabi smashing seven sixes. His cameo saw Afghanistan cross the 200 mark for the second time in two days.

Nabi smacked Joshua Little for 25 in the 17th over before being removed in the 18th by Peter Chase.

Hazratullah Zazai, who hit a stunning 162 not out in the previous game, once again displayed an aggressive mood, contributed 31 runs.

In response, Ireland opener Kevin O'Brien top-scored for his side with 74 but could not help its cause. He reached his half-century, emerging as the fourth Irishman to make 1,000 runs in the shortest format of the game.

He fell to Rashid Khan on the last ball of the 16th over, caught by wicketkeeper Shafiqullah Shafaq. Khan bagged his second scalp (Shane Geftake) before dismissing Simi Singh.
