GARDEZ (Pajhwok): NATOinfo-icon’s Resolute Support (RS) mission has reaffirmed its commitment to cooperating with Afghan security forces in maintaining security for next month’s presidential election.

RS Commander Brig. Gen. Leigh Tingey expressed these views during a meeting with police chiefs of Paktia, Logar, Paktika, Khost, Ghazni and Maidan Wardak provinces about election security at the Thunder Military Corps in Gardez, the capital of Paktia province.

“There is currently no change ” Gen. Tingey said.

Paktia Police Chief Col. Usman Jambaz talked about some security issues in Zuramat, Janikhel, Zazi Aryub and Syed Karm districts and said police were trying their best to control security issues in these areas.

“Situation in Paktia has improved compared to the past. We assure that militants won’t be allowed to derail the election process.”

Logar police chief Col. Fazal Khuda Mukhles said three out of six Logar districts faced insecurity.

Some insecurity issues in Baraki, Kharwar and Charkh districts had been addressed through operations. He added nine rebels were killed in a recent operation in Azra district.

Paktika police chief Col. Emal Niyazi said his province earlier faced multiple security challenges but most of those security issues had been resolved through operations. According to him, elections could be held in the province.

“The areas which have been selected for polling stations will face no security issue. There had been no security problem in the last year’s election and I assure the people of Paktia full security,” he said.
