SHARAN (Pajhwok): The Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department in southeastern Paktika province says it has provided jobs for 60,000 individuals on different projects.

Eng. Momin, head of the department, told Pajhwok Afghan News during an exclusive interview that about 400 different projects were currently being implemented at a cost of 1,300 million afghanis.

He said the projects, suggested by residents, included construction of roads, canals, drinking water supply, retaining walls and buildings for schools.

Momin said the job opportunities had helped prevent youth from travelling to other countries through smuggling routes.

The director added they planned to supply solar power to border districts of the province under the Citizens’ Charter Programme.

A tribal elder from Sharan, Juma Afghan said under the Citizens’ Charter Programme, projects had been executed fruitfully.

Sidiqullah, a resident of Barmal district, complained no attention had been paid to the border districts of the province over the past two decades.

Residents of the border districts would be very thankful if provided with solar power, he concluded.
