TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A key bridge between northern Takhar and northeastern Badakhshan provinces was inaugurated after its construction on Sunday, officials said.

At the inauguration ceremony, Takhar rural development director, Sebghatullah Ahmadi, said the bridge was 200 meters long and six meters wide.

He said the bridge in Nahr Chaman area of Taloqan, the provincial capital, shortened the distance between Takhar and Badakhshan provinces.

Jawad Hejri, Takhar governor’s spokesman, said the bridge was constructed with funds from the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD).

Besides shortening distance between the two neighboring provinces, the bridge also connects 40 villages with Taloqan city.

Qasim, a resident of Nahr Chaman area, told Pajhwok there was no proper route to travel to Taloqan city but construction of the bridge resolved the issue.

Noorullah, a resident of Badakhshan province, said they would travel long distance and pass through Taloqan city and reach their province, but the bridge now shortened the journey.
