KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Two illegal SIM mobile phone card networks have been busted in Kabul, an official said on Monday.

The networks had the ability to operate 64 SIM cards at a time, Khair Mohammad Faizi, a Ministry of Communications and Information Technology official, told a press conference.

After being informed on Feb. 20 that some people were using illegal SIMs in the 5th police district, they seized 161 SIM cards and 56 credit cards, Khair Mohammad Faizi said.

A man was detained on the charge of running the networks, whose exact purpose was yet to be known, Faizi added. The system was used for incoming call from foreign countries.

Such networks could cause a huge loss to the government and telecommunication companies besides affecting the quality of services, he said. They could disrupt security in the country.

Individuals involved in the unlawful business would be fined under the relevant law, Faizi warned.
