QALA-I-NAW (PANinfo-icon): A Talibaninfo-icon local commander was killed in an operation by international troops in the northwestern province of Badghis, officials said on Monday.

The commander identified as Shah Alam was killed on Sunday night in Kalori Kargasht area of Aab-i-Kamari district, deputy police chief, Col. Ghulam Nabi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Alam led a 60-member insurgent group accused of disruptive activities in the area, he said, hoping the security situation would improve with his death.

A tribal elder, Mueenuddin, said they saw some helicopters hovering over the area opened fire targeting the militant leader on a bike. Shah Alam was and his body taken by tribal elders to his home in Zamand village, he said.
