KHOST CITY (PAN): Security officials have arrested 10 people on the charge of kidnapping four workers of two non-governmental organisations in the southeastern Khost province, an official said on Friday.
Gunmen abducted four NGO workers, including an official of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), when they were conducting a survey for a National Solidarity Programme (NSP) project in Nadar Shah Kot district on Thursday, the district chief, Hassan Jan Sherzai, said.
Another seven workers were able to escape their kidnapping, with two more workers missing, he said.
The suspects arrested during an operation by police were being interrogated. No group has so far asserted responsibility for the abduction.
Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen killed an official of Logar provincial fire brigade department in the central province on Friday, an official said.
The government employee was on his way to the department when he was gunned down, crime branch chief, Col. Mohammad Jan Abid, said, adding the attackers had fled and that an investigation had been opened into the case.
“Four people riding on motorbikes shot the official dead early in the morning,” a resident, Zakiullah, said.
