WASHINGTON (PAN Bank Spring meetings from April 12 to 18.
“The purpose of his trip is to represent Afghanistan at the World Bank/IMF Spring meetings and to put forward Afghan proposals for important reforms to strengthen the financial sector and improve economic performance,” said a spokesman for the Afghan embassy.
During his stay in Washington, Abdul Jalil Ghafoory said, Zakhilwal was expected to meet senior officials of the World Bank Group, International Monetary Fund and Afghanistan’s development partners, as well as senior US officials.
“He will discuss the key elements of the government’s reform plan and lay out a path to support increased Afghan leadership for development and transition,” Ghafoory said.
Other issues likely to be discussed include an IMF programme, which is a critical step to allow donors to meet their pledge to increase up to 50 percent the level of development assistance delivered through the Afghan national budget, he said.
