24 dead in Mohmand clash

ISLAMABAD(PAN border on Friday, an official said.

The troops hit militant hideouts with artillery and helicopters in the Shaghalaiarea of Baizai tehsil early in the morning, a political administration official told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Security forces took control of the Taliban stronghold after a week of clashes, Mohammad Nadir said, adding 22 insurgents were killed and 25 others wounded in today’s gunbattle.

Pakistan Army spokesperson Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas confirmed rebel casualties, saying three Taliban sanctuaries had been destroyed. Two security officials were also killed and another 10 injured in the engagement.

Last week, the lawless area witnessed a deadly clash, in which 50 militants and four soldiers were killed.
