KABUL was aimed at ensuring full Afghan ownership of all government functions across the country.
Gass looked forward to working with the government in Kabul and the international community to help ensure that the people of Afghanistan could live in independence, peace and prosperity, said his spokesman, Dominic Medley.
“That means that Afghan and ISAF forces will continue their campaign to defeat the insurgents who seek to undermine the elected and sovereign Afghan government,” Medley said in a statement.
“But it also means building a strong partnership between Afghanistan and NATO which underpins the long-term nature of NATO’s commitment,” the statement added.
Gass, who was appointed in February 2011, served as British ambassador to Iran from early 2009 until March 2011. He has been British ambassador to Greece and deputy high commissioner to South Africa. He has also been posted in Rome, Lagos and New York.
