16 dead in Karachi explosion

QUETTA(PAN‘s southern port city of Karachi, officials said on Friday.

The overnight blast occurred at a gambling den in the densely-populated Ghas Mandi neighbourhood of the sprawling city, local police officer Iqbal Mahmood told Pajhwok Afghan News.

A large number of people were present near the multi-storey Brich Club when the bombing took place, journalist Zafar Karimi said. The casualties were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The bombing caused panic in the area, where residential buildings and commercial facilities are located. Residents and passers-by also took part in the rescue operation.

Weighing two kilograms, the time device had been placed beneath a huge table at the entrance to the building, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Raja Khatab said.
