Seminar on education held in Balkh

Seminar on education held in Balkh

Apr 22, 2011 - 18:31

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (PANinfo-icon): A day-long seminar on promoting the cause of educationinfo-icon was held in northern Balkh province on Friday, organisers said.

The seminar -- titled "Let Us Learn" -- was organised by the Balkh Literary Movement and attended by a large number of tribal elders, writers, culturists and students.

A member of the Balkh Literary Movement, Dr. Ghulam Rasul Malikzai, said that the objective behind the event was to encourage people to send their children to school.

Using all available resources, Afghans should try to acquire education, said Abdul Ghafoor Lewal, the Regional Studies Centre director. "Everyone should have a few books in one's home to promote the reading culture among children."

In his paper read out on the occasion, Dr. Ibrahim Shinwari called for popularising womeninfo-icon's education in the country. "Afghanistaninfo-icon is a country where the female literacy level is dismally low."
