Several rebels killed, weapons seized

KABULinfo-icon (PANinfo-icon): Several insurgents were killed and weapons seized during joint security operations by Afghan and foreign forces over the past 24 hours, the International Security Assistance Force (ISAFinfo-icon) said on Sunday.

The fighters were killed in the Shahid-i-Hasas district of central Uruzgan province, where the combined force raided a compound. Several suspected guerrillas were detained during the operation.

One AK-47 rifle with ammunition, nine grenades and an improvised explosive device were recovered by the soldiers, who took the detainees for further questioning.

Elsewhere in the country, three Haqqani networkinfo-icon leaders and several other insurgents were killed in the Nadir Shah Kot district of southeastern Khost province. A senior rebel leader for the district, Saleh Khan, was among the dead.

"He directed explosive-device attacks, logistics and communications for Haqqani insurgents operating in the area. Over the last week, he led 20 fighters in two separate attacks on coalition forward operating bases."
