Taliban shoot surrendering commander in Kunduz

KUNDUZ CITY (PAN insurgents killed a commander who recently surrendered to the authorities in the northern province of Kunduz, an official said on Monday.

Mohammad Omar was killed along with his nephew in Nahr-i-Kuhna village of Dasht-i-Archi district on Sunday, the district chief, Sheikh Sadruddin, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The Taliban stormed Omar’s house, killing the former Taliban-designated district chief and his nephew. Omar shun the insurgency along with 10 fighters a month back.

Omar had said he joined the Taliban two years ago. He escaped to Pakistan three months ago when Afghan National Army soldiers launched an operation against insurgents in the district. He had said Taliban leaders in Pakistan fought for their own interests and power.

A The Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said the fighters had killed Omar and two of his guards.
