KABUL said.
With support from the World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations Children’s Funds (UNICEF) and donor communities, the ministry will administer Vit-A tablets to 7.8 million children.
A statement from the ministry said 52,376 of its workers and volunteers would administer polio vaccine to 7.8 million during the campaign that provided an opportunity for families to get their children vaccinated.
While urging citizens, health workers and partners to support the effort at vaccinating children over the next three days, the ministry said it was determined to achieve the goal of eradicating the crippling disease from Afghanistan by 2012.
Minister Dr. Suraya Dalil asked families in all 34 provinces to make sure their children received the vaccine. “Polio immunisation is an essential way of safeguarding children’s health, and preventing this crippling disease.”
