1,000 women complete courses in Jawzjan

SHIBERGHAN (PANinfo-icon): A large number of womeninfo-icon from poor families completed 10 different courses in the northern province of Jawzjan on Wednesday, an official said.

Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAIDinfo-icon), the courses, including poultry farm, animal husbandry, tailoring, handicrafts, literacy, video making, English language, computer and management, cost $130, 000 million, the women's affairs director, Najiba Quraishi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

As many as 1,000 women took part in the four-month long courses in Shiberghan, the provincial capital, she said, adding needy women were identified through a survey conducted in this regard.

Each woman was paid 50 afghan per day throughout the programme and were given equipment on concluding their courses, the director said.

"I want to become a good camerawoman after completing my course," Gulalai, 28, a resident of Arab Khana village, said.

She plans to establish an office of video recording in the city to make videos of special female ceremonies and gatherings.
