JALALABAD (PAN): A suicide bomber was the sole fatality when his vehicle blew up in eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday, officials said.
The suicide bomber’s explosives-packed car detonated at 9:30pm on Tuesday before he reached his intended target in the Kandi Bagh area of Chaparhar district, the district chief, Muallim Mashuq, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
As a result, he said, the suicide bomber was killed. There were no casualties among civilians or security forces. The district chief said the attacker wanted to reach his target somewhere in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital, but his explosives went off prematurely.
A resident of the area, Zahid, identified the slain person as Zareen, son of Lal Baz, a resident of the district.
Police chief, Brig. Gen. Ali Shah Paktiawal, said the bomber could not reach his target due to tight security measures by police.
