QALAT (PAN): The first phase of a 23-kilometre canal has been completed in the southern province of Zabul on Thursday, a senior official said.
A three-kilometre retaining wall was also constructed along the canal, Governor Mohammad Ashraf Nasiri told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The first portion of the Mirza Gul Mohammad Canal cost $300,000 (13.8 million afghanis) provided by the US-led Provincial Reconstruction Team, he said. The project was completed in six months.
With the construction of the canal, the irrigation problem of 25 villages would be resolved, the governor said.
