Fighter dies in police encounter

SAR-I-PUL (PAN fighter was killed and another wounded in a clash with police in northern Sar-i-Pul province, an official said on Wednesday.

The incident took place late on Tuesday night in the Khan Aqa and Sherabad areas on the outskirts of Sar-i-Pul City, the provincial capital, the police chief said.

Brig. Gen. Asadullah Sherzad told Pajhwok Afghan News the policemen suffered no casualties during the firefights.

But a tribal elder, speaking on condition of anonymity, said five policemen were killed in the overnight clashes.
