JALALABAD (PAN): Border police detained six alleged bomb planters with explosives in the eastern province of Nangarhar, officials said on Saturday.

The suspects were held late on Friday on the basis of intelligence reports in the Sasobi area of Dur Baba district, a border police commander said.

Brig. Gen. Aminullah Amarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News a jerry cane full of explosives was seized from them. The arrests had prevented a possible terrorist attack, he added.

The incident came a week after border police seized 50kgs of explosives during a patrol in the Aminabad area of Dangam district of neighbouring Kunar province.

Separately, a man was injured in a bomb blast in the Amir Shaheed area of Jalalabad on Saturday morning. The blast took place at 6:30am, said the governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Zia Abdulzai.
