KABUL, the US embassy in Kabul said on Saturday.

The programme, launched on June 2 by the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Martyrs and Disabled and the International Labour Organisation (ILO), is aligned private sector priorities.

Minister Amina Afzali said on the occasion: “The project will contribute to build a modern system of labour administration strengthening our capacity to provide services to workers and employers across Afghanistan.”

The US embassy labour officer stated said: “This project brings the expertise and experience of both the ILO and the US Department of Labor into partnership with the ministry on an important aspect of Afghanistan’s long-term social and economic development.”

A statement from the embassy said the project would first review Afghanistan’s labor laws and regulations with the aim of creating a legal framework that supported the promotion of productivity and workers’ rights.
