16 killed in Waziristan drone strikes

ISLAMABAD (PAN‘s restive tribal region of Waziristan, officials and residents said on Thursday.

A CIA-operated drone fired several missiles into a compound on Wednesday in the Doog Mandikhel and Kirzi Kot areas near the town of Wana in South Waziristan, a local government official, Hamid Wazir, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Ten fighters, including foreigners, were killed and several others injured when the drone targeted a centre of local Taliban Nazir, he said.

However, Naseer Zaland, a resident of the area, said that all the victims were civilians and belonged to the same family.

Two hours after the first attack, a drone fired missiles at a vehicle carrying militants in the Razmak area of North Waziristan, according to a resident of the area who did not want to be named. Six local Taliban were killed in the strike.
