Militants among 24 criminals detained

KANDAHAR CITY (PAN militants were among 24 people arrested on charges of committing different crimes during an operation in southern Kandahar province, an official said on Tuesday.

Three Kalashnikov assault rifles, a machinegun, a rocket launcher, a walkie-talkie, two mine detecting tools, a binocular and a dozen of AK-47 magazines were recovered during the offensive conducted in Kandahar city and its adjacent districts over the past four days, the deputy police chief told a press conference.

The detainees included 10 armed militants, he said, adding five people were detained on the charge of cooperating with insurgents, three others for committing crimes and as many more for keeping illicit arms.
